The Islanders have pulled ahead of world record pace! With approx 70 miles to go to their next way point – Start Point, near Salcombe in Devon – the four-man crew of the Black Oyster, skippered by Josh Tarr, are now in front of the pace recorded in 2005 by the Grenadier Guards crew who set the Guinness World Record of 26 days 21 hours 14 mins.
At 2am, Black Oyster was travelling at 3.8knots, while Team Hallin – nine miles behind in second place – were recording a speed of 3.9knots. Oarsome Adventures in third, a further nine miles behind Team Hallin, are closer to the coast and making 3.6knots.
Pure Gym, in fourth place, are expected to track south of the Isle of Wight during the morning. Will Savoir Faire head north of the island and into the Solent later today? Keep your eyes on the Yellowbrick tracker, folks!
Charlene Ayres is expected to be recovered from sickness and, later this morning, the Coast Girls will leave anchor near Birchington. They hope to reach the North Sea today.
